Biography

Radu Baies is a contemporary painter living and working in Cluj, Romania. Baies is known for his idyllic yet haunting figurative paintings combining freedom of colour and virtuoso brush strokes with a ‘symbolist’ feeling.

Born in 1988 in Cluj, Romania, Baies depicts his subjects in dreamlike compositions. A sofa enters a landscape as a figure blends into the background. His paintings are filled with mystery. The use of clear blues and the overal esthetic is reminiscent to some symbolist painters such as Puvis de Chavannes or Gustave Moreau.

Radu Baies has exhibited at the Victoria Art Center in Bucharest, Romania; the Kühlhaus in Berlin, Germany and at Telegraph in Czech Republic. His works are collected by national and international art collectors.

Sylvia Walker (b. 1986, US) is an art historian, essayist, art critic, and curator. After contributing to numerous publications, and curating exhibitions in the United States of America and beyond, she currently works as the assistant director of Contemporary Art Issue (CAI).
