Jorg Karg

German

Jorg Karg is a visual artist focusing on digital collage. ‘Jorg Karg’ is a pseudonym as the artist states his own person is irrelevant when it comes to experiencing his works. “The intention behind my digital collages is that the beholder feels addressed immediately, without any further explanation. Therefore, I use present-day visual language and techniques to combine them with long-established, fundamental ideas of painting and drawing. (…)”

Karg’s oeuvre is marked by an unrestrained fascination and interest in the image and our perception of the image as a concept. Before digitally editing photographic material, Karg was an almost obsessive painter and draughtsman. This specific background is present in an almost tangible manner with his digital collages, resulting in an amalgamation of contemporary imagery and image theory, new media, and the everlasting tradition of visual arts in relation to the human condition. Our subjective perception is shaped by so many instant influences these days. Modern media affect us immensely, but so do almost forgotten ideas about shapes, colors, and expressions of past days. Everything builds on one another and is subconsciously present all the time. All that has to be taken into account to move the viewer and create an unexpected personal experience. (…)”

Jorg Karg has been selected for multiple renowned art prizes such as the IPA International Photography Award (2019), PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris (2019), Monochrome Awards (2018), ND Awards (2018), Monovisions Photography Award (2018), BLOOOM Award (2016) and has been shortlisted for the Ashurst Emerging Artist Award (2017). Karg was participated in the 9th Beijing Art Biennale at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), and has had group and solo shows in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, China, Japan, Australia, Denmark, and the Arabic Emirates.
