Biography

Remus Adrian Moldovan (ReMo), born in 1964 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, is a contemporary artist living and working in Ontario, Canada, since 1999. In front of ReMo’s work, viewers have the option of choosing their angle of perception, resulting in new ways of seeing and thinking.

The multidimensional view in his work finds new resources and perspectives on his canvas, where ReMo captures various angles, different shades, mirrored images, and optical illusions to complete the artistic value of each artwork. He has an aspiration that is never satisfied with what it gets, with what it finds – a permanent obsession for continuous improvement.

Glazing and the “fat over lean” oil on canvas technique used by the Old Masters, who ReMo has tremendous respect for, offers him the unique possibility of creating the desired effects of expression so that it reveals the artist’s “it’s how I see” vision. Restlessness that is realized in the strange forms of twisted canvases, waved canvases, and corner works that are searching for an alternate reality, something that shakes harmonies.

There is as much art as there is science in ReMo’s style, as part of the artistic experience involves information processing in the creation of the special illusion as well as in carving the frame to be part of the whole pictorial ensemble.

Career Facts

Remus Moldovan completed his BA in 1989 at the Acadamy of Fine Arts “Ioan Andreescu” in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He went on to teach Drawing and Art History, before becoming a member of the Romanian Fine Arts Organization.

ReMo moved to Canada in 1999, where he would become a member of the Oakville Art Society and the Headwaters Arts, Caledon, Ontario. The Romanian artist has exhibited across the globe. He exhibited at multiple institutions, encompassing the Cultural Centre Romanian Consulate in Toronto, Canada; the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, or the National Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

As a result, ReMo is featured in numerous international private collections, including the Sir Kenneth R. Thomson collection in Toronto, Canada, but also collection in the United States of America, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary and Romania.
